Planned Nostalgia

22 Jul

Our generation has a thing for nostalgia.

I prefer to call it “planned nostalgia.” We experience the world with an eye to hark back to a particular moment in the future. But in doing so, we change the present. You purposefully try to plan a moment for how you will remember it.

I sometimes ask myself how I should look back upon the first job, the time right after college. Not to be super meta, but how will I look back on this public blog as evidence of the awkward early-twenties? I already can see myself giving my past a big, “awwwww… he has totally no idea what’s going to happen….”
